Honored to Be the Voice of This Brave Man

I’ve previously mentioned how, as the voice pattern for “Microsoft David,” I’ve heard myself in the most unexpected places. But this moved me.

Ady Barkan was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2016. On April 30th, he brought his story to the Congress of a nation grappling with a healthcare system which Barkan says delivers “high costs, bad outcomes, mind-boggling bureaucracy, racial disparities, bankruptcies, geographic inequities, and obscene profiteering. ” Paralyzed and unable to speak on his own, Barkan uses a computer voice to tell his story. He chose mine. I’m proud my voice can tell his story, to Washington and the nation.

Producing a Wrap at ABC

From ABC News Radio, I thought I would give you a look at what goes into “wrapping” some sound to create a short report that is sent to affiliates coast to coast over the ABC Radio Network.  Some folks do the production in post on a multi-track editor, but, when possible I prefer doing it in real time:  Faster to produce, and more organic sounding.

“You know, you sound like that text to speech voice in Windows.”  That’s because it IS me!   I’m proud to have been selected to be the signature male American English for Microsoft’s operating system, making my debut in Windows 8, and then featured in Windows 10.  Here’s a “fan” mash-up between “me” and Microsoft Anna!
